I am a geographer with a background both in the Earth and Social Sciences. I studied Environmental Studies and Geography at San Francisco State University in California and went on to complete my B.A. in one of the U.K.'s premier geography programs at the University of Bristol in England. Shortly thereafter, but with a repose from university studying, I completed a M.A. in Geography at the Université de Paris I, La Sorbonne, Institut de Géographie, France. After yet another academic hiatus, I eventually returned to embark on a Ph.D. adventure, which I successfully undertook at the University of California, Davis.

I have been with the Tourism and Hospitality Studies program and the Department of Geography at CCSU since the fall of 2005. I held the position of Interim Director of this program in '06-'07 and successfully managed, developed, and grew the enrollment in the program while simultaneously expanding our industry outreach connections so as to provide increased job opportunities for our graduates.

Dr. Charles Button and I are acting Co-Chairs, of CCSU's Global Environmental Sustainability Coalition. We just conducted our Inaugural Symposium in January 2008, which met with great success and reviews.

I am also currently serving as the Governor’s Appointee to the Advisory Commission on American and Francophone Cultural Affairs.

While completing my Ph.D. at UC Davis, I founded and developed both academic and professional tourism programs for the John Muir Institute for the Environment , and the University of California at Davis Extension. I also received some hands-on training opportunities in conference and event planning, development and management (see California Agritourism and Nature Tourism Workgroup, and the North American Farmers’ Direct Marketing Association), and worked as a California Communities Intern on an agricultural diversification conference called Solutions for Today's Farmers.

I have also gone through various professional development trainings for geography and tourism faculty (see Geography Faculty Development Alliance), the BEST Education Network Think Tank for Sustainable Tourism as well as other professional, communication, and outreach skills (see Global Tourism Education Network).

I enjoy traveling, learning, being outdoors, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
