MISSION:
The CCSU Geography Department is concerned with the science of location. Geography faculty
teach students to use maps, air photos, computers, and information about places to understand how people use the land they live on and what makes that land different from other areas. Geography students learn about the nature of places, human impacts on
environment, and proper use of the land. Career opportunities include:
travel and tourism; environmental protection; urban, regional & transportation planning; site selection; map making; air photo interpretation; computer cartography; and geographic in
formation systems (GIS).
PROGRAMS:
Undergraduate.
Major in Geography with a Specialization in
Planning or Major in Geography with one of the following tracks: (1) environmental, (2)
Geographic Information Science, (3) tourism, (4) general/regional.
The department also offers education programs and is the home to the CCSU
Tourism and Hospitality Studies program. Internships and cooperative education program available. Concentrations also available.

FACILITIES:
The Department of Geography has fully equipped cartography, air photo interpretation and microcomputer labs available for student use. Our Microcomputer Lab includes fifteen PCs, digitizing
tablets, color plotters and laser printers for computer cartography, GIS and
database applications. CCSU is a U.S. Federal Government Map Depository, with
over 25,000 sheets in our collection.
