Climatic Classification Lab:

Refer to your notes for chapter six and several of the climographs shown in that chapter of your textbook for help in answering questions on the data.

1.  Convert the temperature and precipitation data currently in centimeters and degrees C into inches and degrees F (bring the converted data). After that graph the temperature and precipitation data for each of the stations A-D on graph sheets to create a climograph for each station.

Conversion formula:

a) Precipitation:  2.54 centimeters = I inch

b) Temperature:  F = (C x 1.8) + 32

                            C = (F – 32) /1.8

Use the above data to answer the following questions for each station.

2.   What the total annual precipitation at the station

3.   What is the mean annual temperature for the station?

4.   What is the temperature range for the station?

5.   The warmest month at the station occurs in which month

6.   The coolest month occurs in which month?

7.   Do you believe the station is located along the coast or in the continental interior? Explain with evidence from the data.

8.   Is the station located in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere? Explain your answer based on the data.

9.   Determine the climatic type (according to Koppen’s classification system).

10. Suggest a location for this climatic type (City, Country)

11. Describe the type of vegetation one may likely find at the station
