UNDERGRADUATES
Each
student is expected to belong to one of four research groups listed below. The
groups are expected to conduct a thorough research on the selected topics.
Sources of information could be interviewing of specialists in the field. Each
group would meet, prepare and present a report on their research to the class.
GROUP 1. FEEDING THE
POOR THROUGH FOOD AID: THE BENEFITS & DRAWBACKS.
Trace
the sources and recipients of food aid in the world. Explain why some people
depend on food aid. Search for reasons why some countries give food aid to
others. Show statistics if possible then examine the impact, merits and
demerits of using food aid as a tool for alleviating hunger in poor developing
countries. What impact does food aid have on the giving and recipient countries?

GROUP 2. THE
HOMELESS AND FOOD WASTE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A.
Conduct interviews among directors of soup kitchens, homeless units and social
service personnel to find out why some people go hungry in America. Among other
things try and find out the following from your interview:
1. Who form the greater portion
of the hungry? (males, females, children, minorities)
2. What are some of the reasons
why people go hungry?
3. What percentages of people
in the community go hungry?
4. What percentage of the
American population goes hungry?
5. Food needs for the group.
6. How do they replenish their
food stocks?
7. Are the officers paid?
8. Any other relevant questions
