Courses I Teach at the Geography DepartmentGEOG 110: Introduction to GeographyAn explanation of the basic Patterns of physical environment and relationship of human patterns to them: ( Mode/Area Social Scientific) GEOG 256: Maps and Map Reading Explanation of concepts and practical exercises in the use and interpretation of a variety of maps. Emphasis is placed on the Topographic map. Map sources are discussed. ( Mode/Area Social Scientific) GEOG 266: Aerial Photo Interpretation & Remote SensingExplanation of concepts and practical exercises in the use and interpretation of aerial photographs. GEOG 272: Physical GeographyGEOG 378 GIS Applications in Resource Management Lab Practical exercises involving GIS applications to environmental and resource management. Arc View/Spatial Analyst is the GIS Software adopted for all labs. GEOG 433: Issues in Environmental ProtectionDiscussion of issues in environmental protection, preservation and conservation. Topics includes; global population, global warming, air and water quality and management, waste management and wilderness areas. A single field trip may be required. GEOG 446: Regional Geography of Sub-Saharan AfricaGEOG 466: Remote Sensing of the Environment The course is designed to introduce students to the techniques of remote sensing measurements of environmental parameters from aircraft and satellite platforms. There is a laboratory component which is computer-based and will include an orientation to digital data, image interpretation, image preprocessing (radiometric & geometric), image enhancement, image classification, change detection and case studies of remote sensing applications.
