“D’Arcy is by far my best professor in school so far. He is extremely helpful and is always available to talk on an individual basis. I think that if more students were taught in this class, there would be far less racial diversity issues on our campus. D’Arcy is a wonderful professor and I would most definitely take a class with him again.” - (World Regional Geography FA '07)
"AMAZING class"... (Geography of Tourism W '08).
"Mr. Andronico states that travel is important and that one learns more and more. He asks for everyone to work at peace at home, in one's village and in one's country. He stresses peace regardless of faith. Traveling is about learning. It doesn't have to involve formalized study or even visits to historical sites for one to learn. One learns about culture simply by traveling and functioning outside of one's comfort zone. Cultural interactions create understanding which helps to promote peace." "Loved it" (Geography of Tourism W '08).
"Wonderful class.. makes me want to travel and explore more!" (Geography of Tourism W '08)
“Dr. Dornan does a wonderful job teaching this course. The visits to hotels, museums, etc., are interesting and useful. I have been able to learn a lot about the industry and get more insight for my future.” (Tourism and Hospitality Industry FA '07)
“I thought this class was amazing! I loved every class! Dr. Dornan is a great teacher and motivator, and truly wants every student to succeed. He had a great balance of work, with a mix of lectures and visitors to speak and go to see.” (Tourism and Hospitality Industry FA '07)
"The instructor was excellent. He shared many interesting web sites that emphasized the impact of tourism on society...many sites I would never even think to visit (Geography of Tourism W '08)."
"This young girl really made me cry, her words were amazing. I think that as a tourist, my selection of how to travel and where to travel must be more sufficent. For example, travelling to Africa doesn't have to be so rustic where you are scared of lions attacking, but getting involved in a habit for humanity project or visiting children at the schools and reading to them. Travelling does not always mean its time to be selfish, it could be a time to give back. Travelling can promote this areas, but also help perserve and give respect to the culture and the people. Like this young girl states, we are wealthy, but we do not share. If we can afford to travel to such places, we should share our wealth. Even if its our knowledge and education to those who cannot afford education or even a book to read. We can make tourism effective and benefical for underprivilege countries." "I really enjoy your class and I really enjoy how you let us deal with tourism geography in an indirect way; the web quests have allowed me to know the subjects more without me even noticing it. Thanks a lot for your help so far."
"The course content was very interesting and the easily accessible websites really helped. Professor Dornan was very fast to offer feedback. It was like he was there every time I was online. What a great teacher (Geography of Tourism W '08)."
"This course was great, and the instructor was even better. He knew what he was talking about and offered so much feedback and information about the subject. This course makes me and drives me to not only travel more, but become familiar with the places that I am traveling to. Highly recommended course and teacher! (Geography of Tourism W '08)."
“I loved this course! I felt like everyday I learned something that amazed me. I am so glad I decided to take it. It piqued my interest in traveling and learning about the world."
"I have so many new bookmarks on my computer from all of the great websites that I had to make a new folder!!! I really enjoyed the assignments for this class (Geography of Tourism W '08)"
“I enjoyed your class very much. I really mean it. I wish I took this class in class and had more time to learn more about tourism and Geography. I like to travel and learn from other cultures, and, because of this class about environment preservation as well."
“THS 300 was a great class. I was never bored and Professor Dornan always gave a decent amount of work; not too much and not too little.” (Tourism and Hospitality Industry FA '07)
“THS 300 and the professor himself has explained the subject in the best way which has made me more knowledgeable on this subject. I have learned all about the industry especially ‘hotels’ which I’m interested in. I am very thankful to have Dr. Dornan as a professor.” (Tourism and Hospitality Industry FA '07)
“I really liked going to different places, such as the Wadsworth and other hotels to see what its like to work there. It helped me really understand their jobs and responsibilities. The career paper helped too. It made me realize I need a better resume and what job I want. This course helped me a lot.” (Tourism and Hospitality Industry FA '07)
“This is a great class and Dr. Dornan is a great professor! Definitely my favorite class this semester. Enjoyed the field trips very much! I would recommend this class to anyone. Thank you!” (Tourism and Hospitality Industry FA '07)
“Dr. Dornan had made this class worthwhile, esp. w/the offsite visits to help us understand the hospitality world much better.” (Tourism and Hospitality Industry FA '07)
"I think tourism/traveling is about opening your horizons. If you open up your horizons you can go anywhere and learn about everything. I have learned this through taking this class. Before I was very close-minded and only wanted to travel to beaches or famous places ie Eiffel Tower, but know I have learned that there is so much more to traveling. You can even go to Uganda and meet the very nice people that are there as according to Mr. Adronico." (student response to online video-linked exam question, Geography of Tourism, S '07)
“This class was great. It made me change my major toward the tourism aspect. I appreciated all the advice and help that was given to me throughout the course and would recommend the course and professor to other students. I would love to have the professor for a class again.”
“Dr. Dornan was an excellent facilitator. He was very helpful and prompt when answering emails. His presentations were very interesting too.”
“Great Teacher!”
“This was the first time that I took a course online. My experience with this course definitely encourages me to take online courses in the future. The course material was interesting and presented well. The assignments were well suited to the material and the course format. Completing the coursework permitted me to further explore areas that I was already interested in and introduced some new subject areas as well. I can certainly recommend the course and the instructor.”
“I would love to make some sort of recommendations but I really, really liked this course. I initially thought it would be boring and I am not a very good geography student but I loved the format of this class, the presentations, and pretty much everything. I found the professor to be extremely helpful... This was my first online class and it was a fantastic experience. I would recommend this course to everyone. Great class, wish I had more like this one!”
“Overall, the class was informative and engaging...”
“I have taken a couple online courses and hated them. I decided to take one this summer because by schedule didn’t allow me to go to class. I must say I have a new enthusiasm about online courses. I was in a car accident and the online class allowed me to continue when I felt up to it, if I had to attend I would have dropped out of the class. The professor also kept the course stimulating and really seems to care about his work unlike some teachers who just go through the motions. Overall I was very satisfied and happy in my decision to sign up for an online course.”
“To be honest, when I signed up for this class I wondered what I could possibly learn that I would ever use again and now at the end of it I'm completely shocked. I learned more about how many important factors should go into planning travel other than just what looks fun. I learned about conservation in general and how much we really hurt the environment everyday. I think the websites and activities were well worth the time. The one thing I don't really like is the discussion questions. I thought there were kind of a lot of them and not all of them were very interesting. I also think it is too easy for students to just kind of look at someone else's answer before they give their own opinion. Overall, I think it is an excellent class with practical information and I think I got more of this online class than most of the classes I've gone to at Central."
